BS ENGLISH (LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE)

The BS English programme offers a comprehensive four-year degree programme that aims to ensure students’ grooming in literature and linguistics, besides ready employability and preparation for higher learning. Scaffolded as per the HEC’s latest Undergraduate Education Policy 2023 the programme introduces the students to breadth courses in natural and social sciences, and arts and humanities before taking them to a hardcore engagement with core literature and linguistics courses. The literature courses essentially cover the genres through the works in the various eras including the contemporary works but also go beyond the cannon to discuss world literature in English. A key aspect of the programme is the English Language Teaching (ELT) component which through its skills-based approach prepares the students for a profession in English teaching. The programme is keenly aware of the tendency of students in the field of English to go for higher studies the programmes give the scholars knowledge of and practice in research to prepare them for their MS programmes.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The key aims and objectives of the BS programme are to:

  • Introduce the learners to courses from diverse fields to promote transdisciplinary thinking.
  • Offer a structured path to exploring issues in linguistics and literature.
  • Nurture a culture of research-based learning.
  • Help the students form a sound basis for higher learning.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The BS English Programme is open to students with 45% marks in HSSC (or equivalent) examination.  Applicants with a qualification other than HSSC will need to furnish an equivalence certificate from Inter-Board Chairman Committee, Islamabad.

The programme is targeted towards students with good English proficiency who aspire to pursue a path through linguistics and literature.

DURATION

The BS Programme is an eight semester (12 maximum), 4 years (6 maximum) programme with two regular semesters—spring and fall—in a year. The programme features a summer semester to allow the students to pass failed courses and to improve courses offered at the discretion of the FUI.
