Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shaheen is working as a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering & Information Technology at Foundation University Islamabad. He did his doctorate in Computer Science in 2011 and worked in the field of data mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and remote sensing.
Work:
Over the last 23 years, he served in multiple diverse academic management, teaching, and executive positions in different organizations. He served as Director General (DG) of the National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (NEECA), Government of Pakistan, Dean of Faculty and Professor at Foundation University Islamabad (FUI), Associate Professor in FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Assistant Professor in University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi and GIS Database Manager in Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL).
Research:
He has supervised 3 Ph.D. and more than 20 MS theses, published more than 60 research papers in journals and conferences of international repute (with an impact factor greater than 100), and two books. He has completed multiple national and international research projects with UTP-Malaysia, UNEP, ESRI, Fauji Foundation, SNGPL, NEECA and PTCL. He is the founder of Wisdom Mining of which he has filed a patent in the Pakistan Patent Office and have a couple of publication in the said domain in the SAGE journal of information science. He has developed and launched undergraduate engineering technology programs in information engineering technology and biomedical engineering technology at Foundation University to become one of the pioneers in launching engineering technology programs in the private sector. He has also developed and implemented Masters's program in information security and artificial intelligence and a Ph.D. program in Computer Science at Foundation University. He launched the first engineering journal of FU named Foundation University Journal of Engineering & Applied Sciences categorized in the Y category by HEC. He is the head of the AI & FM Automation research group at FUI. He is a member of the National Curriculum review committee of the National Technology Council and a program evaluator of the National Computing Education Accreditation Council Pakistan. He served on the sessions committee, and organizing committee of national and international conferences including the World Congress on Engineering, ICCOST, etc, and editorial board, reviewer board of multiple international journals including Elsevier Array, Springer Journal of big data, etc.
Dr. Shaheen laid the foundation of the Directorate of Energy Information & Futuristic in NEECA Pakistan and successfully completed UNEP funded project on Product Registry System for the registration of Manufacturers and Importers to comply with MEPS for Transition from Conventional Lighting to Energy Efficient Light using Light Emitting Diodes. He also has successfully implemented the first-ever Energy Information House designed for energy information business analytics and dissemination, at the Federal and Provincial energy headquarters. He also has worked on diverse energy efficiency projects by incorporating state-of-the-art Artificial intelligent Internet of things, machine learning, and big data analytics. He was the pioneer to lay the foundation stone for Geographic Information System Center at Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd. Dr. Shaheen has also initiated multiple national and international collaborations with international organizations including the University of Bedfordshire UK, UHasselt Belgium, different national universities, and software companies in Pakistan. He is a senior member of IEEE and a professional member of ACM, IAENG, and SCI.
