Engr. Usman Zia is a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Foundation University Islamabad (FUI), where he also serves as the Program Manager for the BSc Computer Engineering program. He is actively involved in academic leadership, curriculum development, and ensuring compliance with Outcome-Based Education (OBE) frameworks aligned with PEC and HEC standards.He obtained his BS in Electronic Engineering from Capital University of Science & Technology in 2016, and his MS in Electrical Engineering from Institute of Space Technology, where his research focused on medical image analysis using deep learning models. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Capital University of Science & Technology, specializing in cyber-physical systems.His research interests lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence and critical infrastructure systems, with a focus on smart grid security. He is particularly interested in the application of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) and generative AI to develop robust, interpretable, and resilient solutions for cyber-physical power systems.
At FUI, he teaches core undergraduate courses, and supervises student projects. He has also contributed to faculty development initiatives, particularly in the implementation of OBE and the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into engineering education. He is actively engaged in departmental and institutional activities, including Board of Studies (BoS) and Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) processes
